Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Paoli, PA

Paoli is named after a tavern (an inn opened in 1769 and named for a Corsican general) and for most of the last century it was the end of the line. The Pennsylvania Railroad's Main Line commuter trains terminated here, and the whole western suburbs knew the train as the Paoli Local. It's still a town that runs on a schedule, with the station in the middle of it.

That shapes the kitchens we build here more than you'd think. Custom cabinets, built to order in our Honey Brook shop and installed by our own crew, are designed around how a Paoli house actually runs on a weekday morning.

A Kitchen That Runs on a Train Schedule

Most kitchen designers consider dinner. In a lot of Paoli households, the harder test comes at 6:45 a.m., when three people need to grab coffee, lunch and keys in the same ten minutes. The right cabinets can make that morning dash successful. We often suggest:

  • A coffee station away from the main prep area. With a short run of base and upper cabinets, its own outlet, a pull-out for the machine, and a drawer for pods, filters and mugs, this little nook keeps the morning traffic out of the cook's way.
  • An appliance garage with a lift-up or tambour door, so the toaster, blender and coffee grinder stay plugged in, but off the counter.
  • A lunch-packing zone: containers, wraps and bags in one drawer bank next to the refrigerator, instead of spread across three cabinets.
  • A charging drawer with an outlet inside, so phones and tablets stop living on the island.
  • A drop zone by the door you actually use: a tall cabinet or cubbies for bags, keys and the mail, built in the same finish as the kitchen.

None of these solutions are expensive on their own. They just have to be planned in before the cabinets are built, because an outlet inside a drawer isn't something you add later.

Paoli's Houses, and the Kitchens Inside Them

Custom kitchen cabinets in Paoli, PA Paoli's housing covers a long stretch of history. Near the station and Lancaster Avenue sit older homes from the railroad era, complete with the usual older-house kitchen: small, closed off, walls out of square. Out from the center are mid-century ranches, split-levels and two-story colonials, and newer homes further out.

The split-level deserves a mention because it's common here and awkward to design. The kitchen usually sits on the middle level, open on one side to a half-flight of stairs, with a short wall and a window over the sink. There's rarely room for an island, and the stair opening takes up wall space. Here we often suggest a peninsula instead of an island, uppers to the ceiling to recover the storage the stairs take, and a tall pantry cabinet on whatever full-height wall the room has.

How a Kitchen Project Runs With Us

From the first call to the last adjustment:

  1. Call or request an estimate. We'll talk through what you're thinking and set up a visit.
  2. In-home consultation and measure. We measure the room as it actually is, note plumbing, electrical and anything out of square, and talk through budget, layout and how you use the kitchen.
  3. Design. We draw the layout and produce a 3D plan so you can see elevations and sightlines, not just a floor plan. See our kitchen design page.
  4. Samples in your light. The door styles, species and finishes are looked at in your kitchen, because every finish looks different under your lighting than under ours.
  5. Sign-off, then the build. Every cabinet is made to order by our Amish cabinetmakers, and the building period is the longest stretch of the project.
  6. Coordination. Plumbing, electrical, and any other trade work is scheduled around our install. Countertops are templated off the installed cabinets.
  7. Install. Tear-out and installation is completed by our own crew, usually in a matter of days. This means your kitchen stays in use for most of the project.
  8. Walkthrough and adjustment. We walk the kitchen with you and adjust doors and drawers so the reveals are even and everything closes properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a coffee station worth the space in a smaller kitchen?
Often, yes, if it takes the morning traffic out of the main work area. These stations can be as small as a single 24-inch base with an upper above it.

Can you put an outlet inside a drawer or appliance garage?
Yes, as long as it's planned before the cabinets are built. We lay out the locations, and a licensed electrician we've worked with for years does the wiring.

My split-level kitchen has no room for an island. What are the options?
A peninsula, a rolling cart built to match, or a slim island if the aisle allows it. We'll show you each at the design stage.

How long will I be without a kitchen?
Usually days to about a week for the tear-out and install. The months before that are shop build time, and you keep using your kitchen through all of it.

Paoli is in two townships. Does that matter?
Only for permits, when the project changes plumbing, electrical or walls. Tredyffrin and Willistown each handle their own, and we'll tell you when a permit question applies.
