Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Glen Mills, PA
Glen Mills' ZIP code runs across several townships, but the heart of the town sits in Concord Township, Delaware County. Here, a working 1704 grist mill on the National Register sits just a few minutes from subdivisions built in the 1990s and 2000s. This architectural split shows up directly in local kitchens. Homeowners here are generally dealing with one of two scenarios: an older mill-town or farmhouse property where no two walls are square, or a newer development home where the layout works but the 20-year-old cabinetry has started to show its age.
Our Amish-made cabinets are tailored to the kitchen in front of us. We handcraft everything in our Honey Brook shop, and handle installation ourselves.
When the Builder-Grade Cabinets Are the Problem, Not the Layout
A lot of the Glen Mills kitchens we work with aren't badly designed. Often, they open invitingly to a family room, boast a decent-sized island, and have natural light streaming in the windows. What's failing in these otherwise lovely kitchens is the cabinetry: particleboard boxes are delaminating at the seams, hinges won't hold an adjustment, shelves sag under a normal load. In most cases, these projects are straightforward. The walls, plumbing, and layout usually remain the same, and only the boxes require updating.
In the older mill-town and farmhouse properties, we tackle the opposite problem, where the layout and walls pose the challenge, rather than the existing cabinetry. We scribe to the wall that's actually there and design vertically where the room has more wall than floor.
What We Handle, and What We Don't
We design, build, finish and install the cabinetry ourselves, including boxes, face frames, drawer boxes, islands, pantries, range hoods, and trim. For plumbing, electrical, flooring, or wall work, we bring in trade partners we've worked with for years, to give you ease of communication. We coordinate countertops directly with your fabricator, who takes exact measurements once your cabinets are in place.
Built With Real Joinery
Our drawer boxes are made from solid hardwood and dovetailed at the corners. Face frames are crafted with mortise-and-tenon joints, not pocket-screwed. Boxes use furniture-grade plywood rather than particleboard under a foil wrap. Our Amish cabinetmakers hand-sand, stain or paint, and then seal every piece with a catalyzed topcoat that holds up to daily use. This process makes the difference between sanding out a scratch and replacing a door.
Timeline and Cost
Most Glen Mills kitchens run 2 to 6 months from first contact to installed cabinets, most of it shop build time, with an install that takes just days. Custom cabinetry in this market generally runs $600 to $1,200 per linear foot, depending on species, door style, and storage features. We provide you with an exact quote after measurement. Frequently Asked Questions
My cabinets are only 20 years old. Is it really time to replace them?
If the boxes are delaminating, drawers are sagging, or hinges won't hold, then yes. Twenty years is the typical failure point for builder-grade cabinetry from that era, and it's nothing you did wrong.
Can you keep my kitchen's layout and just swap the cabinets?
In most cases, yes. If the walls, plumbing and appliance locations are staying put, replacing the cabinetry alone is a shorter, less disruptive project than a full remodel.
Do you work on older mill-town or farmhouse properties in Glen Mills, or mostly newer subdivisions?
Both, regularly. The approach is different, because older homes need more attention to scribing and out-of-square walls, but neither is unusual for us.
How far is Glen Mills from your Honey Brook shop?
Glen Mills is a common part of our territory, along with the rest of Delaware County. Please see our Delaware County page for the full service area.
Can you match new cabinets to an existing kitchen island I want to keep?
Sometimes, if we can see and sample the existing finish. Matching another maker's stain is harder than matching our own, so we'll be honest about how close a match we can provide before you commit to keeping the island.
