Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Malvern, PA

The Malvern borough is small, about 1.3 square miles around King Street, the train station, and the Paoli Battlefield, with Victorian singles and twins that were built after the railroad renamed the village in 1873. Homes with a Malvern mailing address span much larger, reaching out across several townships into planned communities, larger lots, and a lot of newer construction.

We build kitchens for both ends of the spectrum. The cabinets we make are custom and hand crafted in our Honey Brook shop, and the install is done by our own crew. The cabinetry design is tailored to which type of Malvern home you own.

Two Malverns, Two Different Kitchens

In the borough, the kitchen is usually found at the back of a Victorian or early-1900s house, with tall ceilings, deep window casings, a sometimes inconveniently placed chimney or old pantry door, and walls that aren't square. The work here requires fitting cabinetry to a room that has had a hundred-plus years to move.

Across the rest of 19355, the kitchen commonly opens up to a family room, with a big island and plenty of wall space. The layout in these homes is rarely the problem. However, we find that the builder-grade cabinets are typically twenty or thirty years old and the island that came with the house was sized for the floor plan's marketing brochure, not for how people really cook or use the space.

Getting the Island Right

Custom kitchen cabinets and island in Malvern, PA In a larger Malvern kitchen, the island is the single biggest design decision, and the one most often poorly executed. A few things we work through with you before anything is drawn:

  • The aisle. Too little room between the island and the perimeter means that two people can't work at once. On the other hand, too much room can feel like taking laps between the sink and the stove. We plan the design based on how many people are in your kitchen at dinner time.
  • What the island does. A prep island with the sink in it, a cooking island with the range, or a clean surface for serving and homework each need different cabinets underneath and different plumbing or electrical under the floor.
  • Seating. Stools need real knee room under a proper overhang, and that overhang needs support. We help you decide how many people sit there before the size is set, not after.
  • Storage facing the right way. We plan for drawers on the working side, deeper cabinets or bookshelves on the seating side, and nothing that opens into the path of the dishwasher door.
  • A different finish. An island in a contrasting stain or paint can feel like a piece of furniture that elevates the room. Choosing the right one is a simple way to make a large kitchen feel designed.

Storage planning is where custom earns its keep. Our Willow Street new-construction kitchen is a good example of a simple footprint made to work hard.

What to Do With a Tall Victorian Ceiling

In the borough's older homes, standard 30- or 36-inch upper cabinets leave a gap above them that collects dust and makes the room look unfinished. Better options:

  • Stacked uppers, with a shorter second row on top. We often create these with glass doors so the top row reads as a display rather than a wall of wood.
  • Uppers to the ceiling with crown molding that matches the rest of the house.
  • Open shelving on one wall where the ceiling height would make full cabinetry feel heavy.

We profile your existing crown and casing if you want the new work to match the old.

What a Quote From Us Actually Includes

Kitchen cabinet makers in Malvern, PA Cabinet quotes are hard to compare because they don't all cover the same things. We include the design and 3D layout, along with in-shop building, finishing, and delivery by our Amish cabinetmakers. It also includes installation by our own crew, as well as boxes, face frames, doors and drawer fronts, dovetailed hardwood drawer boxes, soft-close hinges and glides, fillers and panels, toe kicks, crown and light rail, and any island, pantry or wood range hood that's part of the design.

What isn't included, and why:

  • Countertops: we specify them and coordinate with your fabricator, who templates off our installed cabinets. That's the only way to get a tight fit.
  • Plumbing, electrical, flooring, tile and drywall: handled by trade partners we have worked with for years, and scheduled by us so you have one point of contact.
  • Appliances: you buy them; we take the model numbers early and then the cabinets are built around them.

Cost and Timeline

Custom cabinetry here generally runs $600 to $1,200 per linear foot. A big island with seating and a specialty finish will land toward the top of that range, while a straightforward perimeter replacement will land toward the bottom. Most kitchens run 2 to 6 months from first contact to finished, with a longer stretch of shop build time and just a days-long installation. See how a project runs on our process page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big should my kitchen island be?
It depends on the room, not a rule of thumb. We start with how many people cook and sit there, then work backwards to a size that leaves comfortable aisles on every side.

Can you replace just the island and keep the perimeter cabinets?
Sometimes. Matching another maker's finish is hard, so we'd usually suggest a deliberately different finish on the new island rather than an almost-match.

My borough house has 10-foot ceilings. Do cabinets to the ceiling cost a lot more?
More cabinetry costs more, but stacked uppers add real storage for the money. We will price it both ways so that you can compare.

Do you install in the townships with a Malvern address, not just the borough?
Yes. The whole 19355 area is regular territory for us.

Can you coordinate the plumbing to move a sink into a new island?
Yes. We work out the layout, then bring in a plumber we've worked with for years and sequence the rough-in before the cabinets arrive.
