Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Delaware County, PA
Delaware County has more people than Chester County on about a quarter of the land: roughly 3,100 people per square mile against about 710 on our side of the county line. That density shows up in the kitchens. Delco's abundance of twins, rowhomes, and compact layouts means that simply getting a cabinet through the front door often requires tactical planning.
That's the kind of kitchen where custom cabinetry shines best. We build to the inch in our Honey Brook shop and install with our own crew, across all 49 of the county's municipalities.
Where the Inches Come From in a Small Kitchen
In a small kitchen, stock cabinets waste space in two ways. They come in fixed widths, so the leftover gets covered with filler, and they come in fixed depths, so a narrow room ends up with a narrower aisle. Building to the room recovers both. Where we usually find storage:
- No filler strips. Every run is built to the wall-to-wall dimension, so the last few inches become part of a cabinet.
- Shallow cabinets where depth hurts. A 12- to 15-inch-deep pantry wall, or scaled-back base cabinets, can easily rescue a tight aisle from feeling cramped.
- The corner. A blind corner or lazy Susan can utilize empty space where no one can reach.
- The toe kick. Add shallow drawers in the kick space for baking sheets, trays and cutting boards.
- Above the refrigerator. A deep cabinet that actually reaches the front of the fridge, instead of a shallow one you need a ladder to use.
- To the ceiling. Uppers that stop at a soffit leave a foot or more of wall doing nothing.
- Narrow pull-outs. A 6- or 9-inch pull-out beside the range for oils and spices, in a space a stock cabinet line would fill with a panel.
Appliance sizes matter as much as cabinets. An 18- or 24-inch dishwasher or a counter-depth refrigerator can give back a cabinet's worth of space. We'll talk through your options when we measure, before you buy anything.
Ask a QuestionGetting Cabinets Into a Twin or Rowhome
This is the part of a Delco kitchen project nobody thinks about until the truck pulls up. You don't want to be surprised at delivery by narrow front doors, a hallway with a turn in it, a staircase to a basement kitchen or a second-floor unit, or no driveway and a street full of parked cars. We plan for it up front:
- We measure the path, not just the kitchen. We check doorways, halls, stair turns and ceiling heights on the way in. If a tall pantry or a long run won't make the turn, we build it in sections that assemble in the room and read as one piece.
- We plan the delivery. We note where the truck parks, how long it takes, and whether a dumpster or container on the street needs a municipal permit. Rules vary by municipality, so we'll flag it in advance.
- We respect the shared wall. In a twin or rowhome, tear-out and anchoring into a party wall gets done during reasonable hours, and we anchor to framing rather than relying on the plaster.
- We protect the house. Floors and doorways along the carry path get covered, because the path through a rowhome is usually the living room.
Stopping at the Cabinets
A lot of Delaware County kitchen projects don't need a full gut. If the plumbing, electrical, and layout are staying put, new cabinetry is the change that makes the room feel new. It's a shorter, less disruptive project than a remodel. The old cabinets will come out, the new ones go in, and your fabricator will template new counters off the installed boxes.
When the project does need more, like a moved sink, new circuits, or a wall coming out, we coordinate plumbers, electricians and contractors we've worked with for years, so you have one point of contact. We design, build, finish and install the cabinetry ourselves.
Built to Take a Busy Small Kitchen
A small kitchen gets used harder per square foot than a large one. Our cabinets are custom-made to withstand the demands of your busy lifestyle. Crafted with dovetailed solid-hardwood drawer boxes, mortise-and-tenon face frames, and furniture-grade plywood, they offer unmatched durability. To protect against frequent cleaning near the sink and stove, our Amish cabinetmakers finish every piece with a hand-sanded, catalyzed topcoat. See this craftsmanship in action in our Downingtown kitchen case study.
Cost and Timeline in Delaware County
Pricing is the same on both sides of the county line. Custom cabinetry generally runs $600 to $1,200 per linear foot. Small kitchens have fewer linear feet, so the total is often lower than people expect. Most kitchens take 2 to 6 months from first contact to finished, nearly all of which is shop time. The tear-out and install usually take just days, so your kitchen is usable for most of the project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a custom pantry cabinet fit through my rowhome's front door?
If it won't, we build it in sections that we put together in the kitchen. We measure the pathway before anything is built.
Is custom worth it for a really small kitchen?
Surprisingly, more so than for a large one. Small rooms are where stock sizes and filler strips waste the highest share of your space.
Do I need a permit to replace kitchen cabinets in Delaware County?
Generally not, if walls, plumbing, and electrical don't change. Each of the county's 49 municipalities runs its own permits, so check with yours if the project goes further.
Do you really come out to Delco from Honey Brook?
Yes. The measure, the install, and the adjustments are all done by our own people.
Can you work on a second-floor or basement kitchen?
Yes. It's the same planning as any tight access. We measure the route, size the cabinets to fit, and schedule the carry.
