How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Take? Timeline Breakdown

The most common question homeowners ask when they start a renovation is, "When can I actually use my kitchen again?" It’s a fair question! Living out of a microwave in the dining room gets old quickly. While every project is unique, a professional kitchen remodel generally spans 8 to 12 weeks. Understanding the "why" behind the wait can help keep your sanity intact and your expectations realistic. At EastSide Cabinet Solutions, we believe that a well-prepared homeowner is a happy one.

The Planning and Design Phase

Before a single hammer swings, the heavy lifting happens on paper. This phase typically takes 3 to 4 weeks. This is when you sit down with the design team at EastSide Cabinet Solutions to finalize your vision. You’ll choose your door styles, finishes, and organizational inserts. Because custom cabinetry is built to order rather than pulled off a shelf, this lead time is essential. It is much better to wait an extra week for the perfect cabinet than to rush a design you’ll have to live with for twenty years. During this time, you should also be finalizing appliance selections, as their dimensions dictate the cabinet construction.

Demolition and "The Guts"

Once the old kitchen is hauled away, the rough-in begins. This is the messy part of the journey and usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks. Plumbers move gas lines, electricians add outlets for your new island, and our HVAC experts ensure your range hood actually vents properly. If you are changing your floor plan, this is when the new skeleton of your kitchen is built. It’s often the loudest phase, but seeing the new footprint emerge is incredibly exciting. This is also when any structural repairs to the subfloor or walls take place to ensure your new kitchen has a rock-solid foundation.

Installation and The Home Stretch

This is where the magic happens over the final 4 to 5 weeks. Your EastSide Cabinet Solutions cabinetry arrives and is meticulously installed. Once the boxes are in place, the templating for countertops occurs. It’s important to note that stone countertops usually require a 1–2 week fabrication lead time after the cabinets are set. Finally, the backsplash goes up, appliances are plugged in, and the crown molding is adjusted for that perfect, seamless finish. By the time the final hardware is screwed into place and the dust is cleared, you'll see that the 12-week journey was a small price to pay for a kitchen that functions exactly how you need it to for the next several decades.
